Sverre Overå, former Project Director of Northern Lights, joins 44.01
14 November 2024: 44.01 has appointed Sverre Overå as Senior Advisor. Sverre brings more than 40 years’ experience as a leader for energy development projects in Norway and Brazil, latterly as director of Northern Lights Project, the world’s first cross-border Carbon Transport and Storage project. Sverre will advise 44.01 as the company looks to scale internationally and deploy its technology outside the Middle East for the first time.
Sverre Overå said “44.01’s mineralisation technology offers a promising solution for safe, permanent CO2 storage, and a valuable alternative to storage in sedimentary geological formations. I am looking forward to working with the 44.01 team to help refine their technology and demonstrate its commercial application.”
Sverre spent over 40 years in Equinor, primarily leading development projects in Norway and Brazil. He was project manager for the development and construction of the Technology Center for CO2 capture at Mongstad (TCM). From 2016 to 2024, he led the Northern Lights project on behalf of the partnership Equinor, Shell and TotalEnergies.
Talal Hasan, CEO of 44.01, said “We are delighted Sverre is bringing his expertise to 44.01. Sverre is one of the world’s leaders in CCS and his insights will be invaluable as we scale our solution internationally.”
44.01 began operations in Oman in 2021 and recently announced it was scaling up activities in the UAE following a successful pilot project. Peridotite, the rock 44.01 uses to permanently mineralise CO2, is found on every continent on earth. Deployed at scale, mineralisation technology has the potential to eliminate billions of tonnes of CO2 worldwide.
About 44.01
44.01 eliminates CO2 by turning it into rock. The company’s pioneering technology accelerates the natural process of CO2mineralisation to remove captured CO2 permanently in less than twelve months. 44.01 takes CO2 captured directly from the air, or from hard-to-abate industrial processes, helping decarbonise vital industries and ultimately return the atmosphere to sustainable levels of CO2. The process is safe, scalable and lasts forever.
