About us

Who we are, how we started and where we’re going.

Why are we called 44.01?

44.01 is the molecular mass of CO₂. We named ourselves after CO₂ because we saw CO₂ as an opportunity - a chance to build a new industry to help with the energy transition, to repurpose old skills and expertise, and to help nature use its own tools to fight back against climate change.

Rock

Where we started

44.01 was founded in Oman in 2020. Our founders were looking for a way to remove captured CO₂ permanently, and Oman’s rocks offered a solution.

Oman is home to the largest formation of peridotite anywhere in the world. Reactive rocks like peridotites naturally mineralise CO₂ – locking it
away forever by turning it into rock. The 44.01 team set out to make mineralisation at scale possible, and to help protect and repair our climate.
